An adult female weighs about 1-3 pounds, males are larger and can weigh up to 5-6 pounds. Ferrets come in a variety of colors with Albinos (white with ruby eyes) being the original color of pet ferrets. Other popular colors are sable (with raccoon-like mask), chocolate, silver, and cinnamon, just to name a few.

1. ADOPTING A PET: When you find the pet you want from a Rescue Group online (eg. Craigslist) please make sure that you receive documentation of spay/neuter papers, vaccination records along with the microchip information when adopting - before paying for and taking the pet. DO NOT meet at a store or on the corner to get your pet.
Most reputable groups have adoption events where you can meet and greet their pets. When you select your furry forever friend, the group will usually want to do a “home check” for the safety of the animal eg. a large dog should have a backyard to play in and not be couped up in a small apartment and a cat should be indoors only. If you adopt a small Chihuahua or other toy breed it's best if there's no small children in the household who could accidentally injure the animal with their playfulness.
2. SURRENDERING A PET: Again, don't meet at a store or the street. See where your pet will reside. The majority of rescue groups have Foster homes for these animals, which means your pet will be living in a loving home environment. Please read: "Things You Should Know About Rescue Groups Before Surrendering Your Pet". If you surrender your pet to a KILL Shelter, you're inviting that Shelter to KILL your pet or live in Prison until it gets adopted or "killed".
Never give away a pet for FREE! Your pet may be used as "bait" and eaten alive by Dog Fighting Rings or used for fighting which is big business in Las Vegas. Also, Laboratories that test on animals offer big bucks to people willing to sell these pets to them.
Betting on Blood: Sin City Big Business... click here for full story + video
3. NEVER have an animal shipped to you. Most of the time you'll never receive the animal and will have paid the expenses up front for this pet.
4. Please don't leave your dog unattended in your backyard for long periods of time. Many dogs are stolen from unsuspecting pet guardians for the use as “bait” for dog fighting rings or as “fighters”. Las Vegas has a high incident rate for this horrendous crime. In this economy these criminals "sell" the dog for a high price (pure breeds) or sell to "testing" laboratories who torture these poor defenseless
animals.

Animal abuse and senseless violence to animals won't be taken lightly in Nevada! Cruelty to animals will be a FELONY in the State of Nevada as reported by KTNV, Las Vegas, NV. Clooney's law went into effect on October 1, 2011.
Cruelty to animals by adults and juveniles alike, now carries a felony charge in Nevada. Animal abusers will now be treated like criminals who commit robberies, assaults and drive under the influence (DUI).
A felony charge for animal abuse will come with a one-to-five year prison sentence and a fine of up to $10,000.
There have been complaints about some unscrupulous rescue groups, which are NOT on the above list...The following should not be taken lightly.

Warning: This report has some graphic
and disturbing images, as News 3's Reed Cowan learned that blood sports is
big business in sin city. Reeds sources say this puts all animals at
risk. This story is not for children.
In this economy these criminals "sell" the dog for a high price (pure breeds) or sell to "testing" laboratories who torture these poor defenselessanimals.
