On November 1,2013 the Animal Foundation announced the launch of its new Online Foster List, an up-to-the-minute listing of all animals at the shelter currently in need of temporary care in foster homes with members of the community.

The Animal Foundation’s Foster Care Program serves as a lifeline for underage, sick or injured pets who cannot immediately be adopted. Our Foster Families provide quiet, stress-free, and loving environments for the benefit of pets not yet ready to be made available for adoption, allowing every pet that is fostered through our program a better chance at a happier and healthier life with a forever family.

The Animal Foundation’s new Online Foster List gives residents 24/7 access to view pets in need of life-saving foster care.
Qualifying adopters age 60 or older can receive a $50 discount on any cat one year and older or any dog three years or older. Must provide photo ID at time of adoption. (Cannot be combined with any other promotion.)

The Animal Foundation is proud to partner with more than 60 local and regional rescue partners to find more positive placements for the animals entering their shelter through no fault of their own.
Contact their Rescue Department for more information on their partnerships, or to become an approved rescue partner. AF has a list of the Rescue Groups who have partnered with them.

The Adoption Department is open daily from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Lost and Found Daily 10 a.m.-7 p.m.

All animals have been:
  • Spayed or neutered
  • Microchipped

This is a national advocacy organization dedicated to ending the systematic killing of healthy and treatable animals in our nations shelters. There are currently over 70 No Kill communities across the country representing roughly 200 towns and cities with more joining the ranks yearly. If every shelter in the cities implemented the 10 programs and services, we could end the killing of 3-4 million sheltered animals right now. There is a better way!

Adopt A Rescue Pet has grown to be one of Nevada's largest animal rescue groups providing a safe haven for dogs suffering from abuse, neglect or homelessness. In most of these cases, death would have resulted if the animal had entered a municipally funded shelter.
Currently, Adopt A Rescue Pet houses rescued dogs in foster homes, local boarding facilities, and our "under construction" rescue ranch & retirement facility.

How to Report Animal Cruelty

The more we can come together as a community the more we can help animals in our neighborhoods. Animals are abused and neglected not only by individuals but in pet stores, swap meets, zoos, amusement parks, etc.

If you see animal abuse or neglect
please report it to Animal Control

Nevada Animal Cruelty Laws - NRS 574
Click here to be directed to the online NRS 574

If you know of an abused animal, please contact the City of Las Vegas Animal Control immediately. Animal Control offers 24-hour service, seven days per week. Normal hours of operation are 6:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. An emergency call out officer is available after normal business hours.

  • Their 24-hour service request line is 702-229-6444.
  • If you witness animal cruelty or violence, call 911.

File a report with the Animal Control Department for the City or County the incident occurred in.

Clark County Animal Control 455-7710
City of Las Vegas Animal Control 229-6444
North Las Vegas Animal Control 633-1390
Henderson Animal Control 267-4970
Boulder City Animal Control 293-9283

If there is an injured animal or an animal running loose in the street or on the freeway CALL 311. This is the non-emergency number which you can use to report any animal crisis. They will check the location and put you through to the proper Animal Control Department.

A Happy Note for Animal Lovers

Animal abuse and senseless violence to animals won't be taken lightly in Nevada! Cruelty to animals will be a FELONY in the State of Nevada as reported by KTNV, Las Vegas, NV. Clooney's law went into effect on October 1, 2011.

Cruelty to animals by adults and juveniles alike, now carries a felony charge in Nevada. Animal abusers will now be treated like criminals who commit robberies, assaults and drive under the influence (DUI).

A felony charge for animal abuse will come with a one-to-five year prison sentence and a fine of up to $10,000.
There have been complaints about some unscrupulous rescue groups, which are NOT on the above list...The following should not be taken lightly.

1. ADOPTING A PET: When you find the pet you want from a Rescue Group online (eg. Craigslist) please make sure that you receive documentation of spay/neuter papers, vaccination records along with the microchip information when adopting - before paying for and taking the pet. DO NOT meet at a store or on the corner to get your pet.

Most reputable groups have adoption events where you can meet and greet their pets. When you select your furry forever friend, the group will usually want to do a “home check” for the safety of the animal eg. a large dog should have a backyard to play in and not be couped up in a small apartment and a cat should be indoors only. If you adopt a small Chihuahua or other toy breed it's best if there's no small children in the household who could accidentally injure the animal with their playfulness.

2. SURRENDERING A PET: Again, don't meet at a store or the street. See where your pet will reside. The majority of rescue groups have Foster homes for these animals, which means your pet will be living  in a loving home environment. Please read: "Things You Should Know About Rescue Groups Before Surrendering Your Pet". If you surrender your pet to a KILL Shelter, you're inviting that Shelter to KILL your pet or live in Prison until it gets adopted or "killed".

Never give away a pet for FREE! Your pet may be used as "bait" and eaten alive by Dog Fighting Rings or used for fighting which is big business in Las Vegas. Also, Laboratories that test on animals offer big bucks to people willing to sell these pets to them.

The Humane Society will pay you up to $5,000

Betting on Blood: Sin City Big Business... click here for full story + video

Warning: This report has some graphic and disturbing images, as News 3's Reed Cowan learned that blood sports is big business in sin city. Reeds sources say this puts all animals at risk. This story is not for children.

3. NEVER have an animal shipped to you. Most of the time you'll never receive the animal and will have paid the expenses up front for this pet.

Pet Theft Awareness Week, petsnmore.org4. Please don't leave your dog unattended in your backyard for long periods of time. Many dogs are stolen from unsuspecting pet guardians for the use as “bait” for dog fighting rings or as “fighters”. Las Vegas has a high incident rate for this horrendous crime. In this economy these criminals "sell" the dog for a high price (pure breeds) or sell to "testing" laboratories who torture these poor defenseless

THIS IS WHAT "FREE TO GOOD HOME" CAN DO when you are posting FREE to good home for your dog or cat or are trying to find homes for kittens or puppies that you just want "rid" are putting these defenseless precious animals at risk of getting into the hands of monsters....!!!!
